Carolyn Hyun Ha Oh, principal flutist of the Washington Symphony Orchestra, received her Bachelors and Masters music degrees in flute performance from Peabody Conservatory of Music and Indiana University, respectively. She has studied with Vanita Jones, Thomas Robertello, Jacques Zoon, and Bonnie Lake, and has interned in the Performance Plus program of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. As a flute soloist, she has toured England and South Africa with the New England Symphonic Ensemble, during which her playing was noted for her “uniquely subtle gradation of tone” (Ely News). She has also appeared as a soloist with the Washington Symphony Orchestra, Montgomery College Orchestra, and the Southeastern Music Center Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, she has played principal flute at Carnegie Hall under the baton of John Rutter as well as with the Washington Summer Opera Orchestra. In 1996, she was a prize winner of The Flute Society of Washington’s Young Artist Competition, and she was a recipient of a Yamaha Prize at the 1999 Julius Baker Master Class. She is a founding member of The International Woodwind Quintet and performs regularly with The Musical Offering Flute Ensemble, Silverwinds Flute Quartet, Chamber Orchestra of America, and The Landon Symphonette. She is founder/director of Top Musicians, a music agency representing the finest musicians in the Washington area, and she served as music director for the Korean Cultural Service and the Korea Foundation, USA.
